Write it Down! Tracking Your Meals Daily
Why do we track our foods? I know, I know — it’s a pain keeping tabs on everything that goes into our mouths, but research shows that it is one of the most important components to weight loss accountability and long term success!
Why should I track my food?
To keep yourself accountable: How much are you really eating? Seeing your progress, plus the healthy (or unhealthy!) components that make up your daily diet, will help you keep track trends and habits and adjust accordingly.
To maintain consistency: A habit that you once thought of as “tough” will end up being easier as the days go on, but only if you keep at it and know when to grow your routines with your body’s.
To nurture your motivation: Tracking your food tells the story of your progress, chapter by chapter. Looking back on this will inspire you to keep going so you can be the triumphant hero of your own weight-loss adventure!
To increase awareness and self-growth: Food tracking is not all about the “what”. Keep track of the “who, where, when and why”: Who are you eating with? What are you eating? When are you eating? Why are you eating? Food tracking helps you understand what your habits are AND where changes need to be made.
To make sure your perceptions will match your reality: Are you really eating the amount of fruits and vegetables you say and think you are? Be aware — and honest! — with each entry. Use measuring tools, like a food scale, to make sure your intentions are matching your consumption.
Don’t forget about physical activity!
Scientific evidence and professional studies both support the idea that food tracking is a great way to help create and thrive in a healthy life style.
